Columbia Parking Utility warns of parking ticket payment scam
COLUMBIA - Some residents have received an email from a phony city traffic collections department, the City of Columbia Parking Utility said.
The city said the email states the recipient has a past due parking ticket and demands payment of a delinquent parking fine. The email also says the recipient can pay by credit card or by calling an automated system.
The city said it never demands a payment of any kind via email and the Parking Utility does not have a collections department.
Municipal Court handles parking tickets.
The city said anyone receiving the scam email should report it to the Columbia Police Department by calling 311.
