Columbia Police and Highway Patrol hold joint training exercise
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol held a joint training exercise in south Columbia Monday.
The exercise took place on East Tayside Circle and Carrick Court and started at noon, wrapping around 10 p.m.
According to CPD Public Information Officer Bryana Larimer, this is the department's first annual training exercise that has taken place with another agency.
"Hopefully next time we'll be able to get Boone County Sheriff's Department to participate too," Larimer said.
According to Larimer, the scenario in Monday's training started as an armed burglary and became a hostage situation.
"The only difference between this scenario and a real hostage situation, would be that we would have evacuated the naighborhood," Larimer said. "We told the neighbors it was a volunatry evacuation today."
Larimer did not know exactly how many personnel were at the exercise today from CPD, but she did say the entire SWAT team participated.
