Police said 45-year-old James O. Johnson fled the scene after two shots were fired, and police called in a K9 to track the suspect.

Police said they spotted Johnson crossing US 63 near Home Depot and made an arrest after a short foot pursuit. Police said Johnson was taken into custody for first degree assault, armed criminal action, possession of a stolen firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.

Police also arrested Johnson's girlfriend, 26-year-old Brittany J. Thurston, for tampering with physical evidence. Police said witnesses described seeing a woman take a coat to a neighboring building. Police said the pistol used in the shooting was located in that building.
