COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department will make an effort to crack down on drunk driving for St. Patrick's Day Weekend.
Police officers across Missouri will add an additional sobriety checkpoint as well as saturation patrols in an effort to increase enforcement.
Grant money from the Missouri Department of Transportation-Traffic & Highway Safety Division will help pay for officers working overtime from March 14th through the 17th.
The Police Department also released a statement regarding impaired driving:
"It is never worth the risk to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drivers could lose their license, pay large fines, or worst of all, cause a tragic loss of life. In 2012, 231 people were killed and 841 seriously injured on Missouri roadways in crashes involving alcohol and drugs."
