Columbia Police Find Stolen Vehicle Near Shopping Center

COLUMBIA - Columbia Police have now discovered a stolen vehicle and have two runaway suspects in custody following a vehicle stop near a shopping center on Friday night.

Police said an officer working burglary prevention attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Grindstone Parkway and Rock Quarry Road, but the driver refused to stop. The vehicle struck a traffic light, which halted it on Green Meadows near Kohl's.

Police said both occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. A witness followed the passenger of the vehicle into McAllister's Deli, where Boone County Sherrifs' deputies arrested 17-year-old Christopher Reedy.

Police said a K-9 tracked the driver for 45 minutes but lost contact. In the vehicle, police said they found a prescription for Zachery Smith, a computer stolen on Jan. 17. and an empty handgun case. Police said they found the vehicle was stolen in Columbia on Burrwood Drive on Jan. 14.

Police said 19-year-old Zachery Smith was arrested at 409 Loch Lane around 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

No charges have been filed yet in the case.
