Columbia Police Investigating Armed Robbery Attempt
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department is investigating an attempted armed robbery in the Proctor Park and Bear Creek Park area early Wednesday morning.
Around 1:45 a.m., officers were called on a possible shots fired. Near Parkade Park, officers found two 17-year-old males who reported they were victims of an attempted robbery.
According to police, the victims said they were near the pavilion in the park when two men approached them. One of the men showed a handgun and demanded money. The victims said they told the assailants they did not have any money and then the perpetrator hit one of the victims in the head with the gun several times.
The victims said they ran from the area and reported hearing several shots fired. The victims said they did not know if the shots were being fired at them.
The victim who was struck in the head had minor injuries and was treated by paramedics.
Officers found shell casings in the snow near the pavilion.
