Columbia Post Office hosts job fair to fill new positions
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Post Office hosted a job fair on Wednesday to fill temporary holiday positions as well as city and rural assistant carrier positions.
The Post Master General said the jobs all start as part-time positions but could lead to full-time jobs.
"We're hoping to get them on before the holiday seasons, and these could all lead to permanent positions down the road," Mark Rask said.
Rask said there are 70 city routes and approximately 35 rural routes. The new assistant carrier positions are necessary to help with the holiday rush.
"Especially with the packages, we've really taken on a lot of packages over the past couple of years, and we are looking for probably double, if not triple, the packages we see coming in over the holiday's," Rask said. "We want to staff up and make sure we're getting all the packages delivered on time to the folks here in Columbia."
Rask said to apply for the positions applicants must be 18 years or older and have at least two years driving experience. He said they are looking for someone who is outgoing, has a good memory, and is in good shape.
"It's not an easy job," Rask said. "[It's] a lot of strenuous work, have to carry packages up to 70 pounds, so it's a tough job, but it's a rewarding job, and can lead to a great career."
Rask said more information about the job descriptions and the application process can be found on the United States Postal Service website . No paper applications will be accepted.
