Columbia Public Schools Chooses Site for New Elementary School
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Public School District decided on a location to build a new elementary school in southwest Columbia. The site is located at the northwest corner of Scott Boulevard and Route KK in Boone County.
The 36-acre site will be purchased for $2.8 million from the Sapp family.
There were more than 14 locations that could have been chosen by the site review committee along with city and county officials. Engineers studied the top two potential locations. The evaluation and selection process included available usable acreage, location in the Southwest quadrant of Columbia, location of major roads, level of site development and location of utility infrastructure.
The district's architectural team will adapt the current elementary school master plan to the chosen site.
The school is expected to open in 2016.
Columbia Public Schools is also preparing to break ground on an additional elementary school located adjacent to Battle High School. That school is expected to open in 2015.
