Columbia Public Schools recommends new middle school principal
COLUMBIA - Columbia Public Schools said it plans to welcome a new West Middle School principal this fall.
CPS said it will recommend Dustin Jenkerson to the Board of Education at its meeting on Thursday.
CPS Community Relations Director Michelle Baumstark said the recommendation will be on the consent agenda.
"The board rarely votes no on a hire if the individual has been recommended and has completed the HR process," Baumstark said. "They essentially vote to issue the individual a contract."
Jenkerson has worked at Trenton Middle School in the Trenton R-IX School District since 2013. CPS said he has more than 12 years of experience in education, and he has filled a variety of roles including an assistant principal and a sixth grade social studies teacher. Jenkerson has a master’s degree in education administration from Southwest Baptist University.
“My family and I are so excited to be a part of the Viking family and Columbia Public Schools,” Jenkerson said. “My goal is to support all of our students and provide opportunities for the students of West Middle School to reach their full potential. We will achieve this through building strong, long-lasting relationships with a commitment to excellence. I will work hard to meet the needs of each individual student to see student achievement and success.”
West Middle School's current principal, Connie Dewey, said she will retire at the end of the school year.
