Columbia Public Work Projects get Federal Funds
COLUMBIA - The Columbia City Government released an updated list of projects the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is funding.
The list also notes exactly how much the act awarded to each project and its status.
Of the 51 projects the city requested the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is funding 39.
Three of these projects are completed and fully operational.
The rest are either waiting for approval or still in the works-- just like the construction on Route 63 and the Colt Railroad.
Construction crews are building a new bridge for the railroad that will let frieght trains pass over Highway 63.
The ARRA met the city's request and awarded about $4.5 million to constuct this new overpass.
Construction started in September 2009.
So far it is 73% complete.
As for the rest of the approved projects.
Columbia requested more than $13.1 million and the act is funding almost that much.
As for the bridge project some engineers say they expect it to be finished later this summer or early fall.
