COLUMBIA - Columbia Salvation Army's Harbor House is full.  Regional Director Cyndy Chapman said all 61 beds are occupied, and the organization had to add about 10 more cots to keep those in need out of the cold.

Like scarce space at the Harbor House, Chapman said the Salvation Army is also hard-pressed to find volunteers. It is looking for 10 to 15 more volunteer bell ringers to collect donations through the annual "Red Kettle Campaign." There are currently more than 20 paid bell ringers working Monday through Friday, but Chapman said the Salvation Army needs more volunteers to fill weekend spots.

Despite these seasonal needs, Regional Coordinator Richard Trimmell expects the Columbia office to collect $352,710 in donations this season. That's about $5,000 more than last year's donations. Chapman also said the Salvation Army is also collecting items like pillows, blankets and toiletries.
