Columbia Schools Superintendent Announces Resignation
COLUMBIA - The superintendent of Columbia Public Schools announced his retirement Wednesday.
Chris Belcher's resignation is effective June 30, 2014. The superintendent joined the district's Board of Education five years ago.
Following his departure, Belcher will serve as a faculty member for the University of Missouri College of Education.
Belcher wrote in a letter to the Board of Education the decision was "more emotional than [he] anticipated."
He highlighted community input, a united leadership team and a dedicated staff throughout his notice.
The Board of Education will meet Jan. 13 to discuss next steps for the vacant position.
