Columbia Sewer Processing Close to Capacity
"There are some of us who are concerned about who's going to be paying for the growth part. We think the growth should be helping to pay not just a little, but a significant part ," said Ben Londeree, a Columbia citizen.
The city will be increasing new house connection fees and it hopes a bond will pass to increase sewer utility rates. Although some citizens may be worried about the costs, they see the need for the new additions instead of other options.
"The growth is such that it will overwhelm the system in a hurry," Londeree said.
The new master plan will take the Columbia sewer system through the year 2030.
