Columbia Transit Offers Route Options for Riders in Winter Weather
COLUMBIA - Columbia Transit is offering a customer service line for riders without access to the city's DoubleMap Bus Tracker. Heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures have made it difficult for bus riders to map out their travel plans without a concrete bus schedule.
A Columbia Transit spokesperson encourages riders to use the customer service line. She said the line will be available as long as the buses are running.
"We still have the basics, the app is just a bonus," said Teresa White.
Columbia Transit started running bus routes under the weather schedule routes Jan. 6. Columbia Transit cautioned bus riders about possible delays due to weather conditions, but some riders said waiting in freezing temperatures is difficult.
Shawna Fitzpatrick said she takes the bus daily. She said the delayed schedule is a burden.
"It's been very difficult because of the winter weather. You never know when the bus is going to come or when it's going to leave," said Fitzpatrick.
She also said the city should work harder to remove snow near bus stops.
"Some of the bus stops that are around town are so snow covered, you can't get on or off easily," Fitzpatrick said.
Willie Pippins works outside and said the best solution for waiting in freezing temperatures is to prepare well.
