The woman's walk in the park turned out to be anything but that. At about 8:00 pm Friday a woman walking her dog in Cosmo Park was reportedly approached by a strange man. The man demanded money and reportedly touched a gun handle in his waistband. The victim gave him her money and the suspect then left.

The park is closed between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am each night, so this occurred during business hours. The park was alive Saturday at dusk. Patrons say they feel safe.

"I mean, I think it would be nice for people to be able to go to a park whenever they want, but if it is for a safety issue than yeah, I think it is a good thing for cops to be driving around making sure nobody is getting hurt." said Crystal Hampton, Columbia resident. "I still don't feel that unsafe in the park, I don't think. I mean, I don't think I want to be out here at 2:00 am, but right now I feel safe."

The suspect is believed to be a black male, 19 or 20 years old about 5'10" and 150 pounds. Police believe he may be driving a blue new-model Buick Riviera with tinted windows.

Anyone with information relating to the crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at 875-TIPS.
