Columbians to Bike, Walk and Wheel
The fifth annual Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week kicked off Saturday at Flat Branch Park. Mayor Hindman and Sen. Chuck Graham spoke at the event. They then led participants in a ride on the Katy trail. This week includes a wide range of activities to encourage methods of transportation other than driving. More Columbians are participating this year than ever before.
"We're encouraging people to do this for fitness, of course. For health and fitness, we want them to get more exercise, we want them to think about driving that half mile to the store to get a newspaper, or to get out and walk, and ride their bike. We'd much rather they get out and do that under their own power," said program coordinator Judy Knudson.
Enrollment is still free and open to the public.
