CoMo Cares hosts fundraiser for diaper need awareness week
COLUMBIA - An organization in Columbia is collecting diapers in honor of national diaper need awareness week.
CoMo Cares is Mid-Missouri's first diaper bank and hosts a diaper drive and fundraiser from September 8 to September 14 every year.
During the week, the organization collects money and diaper donations. The donated money is used to buy diapers from distributors to repackage for distribution.
CoMo Cares board of secretary Kara Amann said the fundraiser this week started out slowly.
"We were kinda nervous because at first there wasn't much coming in." Amann said. "But then as some awareness got out more funds came in and we actually met our goal of $1,000. But that doesn't stop the need in the community."
Amman says there are always babies in need of diapers so the organization extended its goal to $1,500.
While CoMo Cares does not accept cloth diapers, it accepts and is looking for size four and five disposable diapers. The organization also accepts packages of diapers that have already been opened.
People can donate money or diapers at the CoMo Cares store or online at comocares.org. The drive will continue until Sunday.
