Conservationists Advise Tree Stand Safety for Hunting Season
JEFFERSON CITY - Bow hunting season begins Saturday in Missouri, and conservationists hope deer hunters will make tree stand safety a priority.
They suggest hunters do a few things in advance to ensure safety. First, make sure tree stands are safely secured to trees. Next, check to make sure the tree isn't dead. Finally, make sure hunters strap themselves to trees with safety harnesses.
"I'd say probably one in every three hunters will fall out of a tree stand in their life time," Conservationist Tony Legg said. "They don't strap themselves in and either slip, lose balance, or fall asleep and fall down and really hurt themselves."
