Construction Begins at Busy Columbia Intersection Monday
COLUMBIA - Construction of a new roundabout kicked off Monday morning at the intersection of Rollins and Fairview Roads in Columbia.
The city is working to build a mini roundabout to improve traffic flow. The city will also make improvements to sidewalks close to the intersection.
The intersection will stay open during the project, but drivers are advised to watch out for lane restrictions during construction. Closures will also become a factor for motorists to worry about. Rollins Road east of Fairview Road will be closed between July 8 through July 19. Rollins west of Fairview will be shut down July 22 through Aug. 2.
The city hopes to ease congestion at the intersection with the new roundabout and sidewalk improvements.
The cost of the project is about $500,000. Construction is expected to last through August 13, weather permitting.
