Cougar Softball Places Two Players on NFCA All-Region Squad

COLUMBIA - The Cougar Softball team placed two players on the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region squad, announced Tuesday. Juniors Jamie Holmes and Marli Hayes were second team selections for the Midwest Region, joining 131 other student-athletes from NAIA programs.

Holmes started 39 games for Columbia and led the team in numerous offensive categories in addition to being named the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-AMC. The Republic, Mo. native batted a team-high .386 on the year to go along with four home runs, 28 RBI, 16 stolen bases, and 34 runs scored.

Hayes started all 40 contests for the Cougars and earned First Team AMC honors after hitting .348 on the season and leading the club with five home runs. The Jefferson City, Mo. native also led the squad with 19 walks and posted a .937 fielding percentage at third base.
