Cougars Woman's Soccer Team Gets First Victory
SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Columbia Cougar women's soccer team improved to 1-2-0 Wednesday night, dropping Benedictine University in a conference match-up by a score of 11-1. The Cougars are 1-0-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) action, marking their first win in the conference as well as their first win in program history since adding the program this fall.
The Cougars led the host squad 7-0 at halftime. Natausha Sanchez put Columbia on the board in the ninth minute, putting in a pass from Stephanie Hale. Amanda Caldwell added goal number two in the 33rd minute, scoring off a pass from Taylor Goddard.
The Bulldogs recorded their lone goal of the contest late in the second half to make the score 11-1 in favor of Columbia.Erica Ramirez got her first start in goal, taking the win.
The Cougars return home for a 4:30 p.m. match-up on Saturday, September 8. Columbia squares off against Mount Mercy College at R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium in their home opener.
