Cougars Women's Soccer Falls to Missouri Baptist University
St. Louis, MO - Columbia's women's soccer team lost to Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday, 2-1. With the win, the Spartans improve to 5-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the American Midwest Conference. The Cougars fall to 5-2-1 overall, 2-1 in the conference.
After a 30 yard goal from Columbia junior Sandra Mendonca, the Cougars kept the 1-0 lead into the second half. The Spartans' Ashly Wiedenhoffer gave the Spartans the lead with 2 goals late in the second half. Missouri Baptist kept the lead through regulation.
The Cougars out shot the Spartans 17-10. Five of Columbia's shots were taken by Stephanie Hale. Junior Erica Ramirez had four saves for the Cougars.
Senior Elise Castellanos recieved the title of the AMC's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. She recieved this title for her efforts in the Cougars' games against Benedictine University-Springfield (Ill.) and Harris-Stowe State (Mo.). Castellanos is the second player from the team to recieve this title this season.
Columbia will go on to play Stephens (Mo.) College on Thursday at the R. Marvin Owens Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
