Council Approves New SWAT Measures
COLUMBIA - The February SWAT raid on Kinloch Court brings still more changes for the Columbia Police Department.
City council members approved a new ordinance Monday night making Chief Ken Burton's May changes to the SWAT policy permanent.
The part Chief Burton seemed to have the largest problem with at last night's city council meeting was referring all new changes to SWAT policy to the Citizens Police Review Board. Eventually, Burton and the city council reached an agreement.
The new ordinance passed unanimously, including a provision to refer all substantive proposed SWAT policy changes to the Citizens Police Review Board and city council.
