Court appearance for man accused in infant son's meth death
FARMINGTON (AP) - A southeast Missouri man accused of causing the death of his infant son by allowing the child to ingest methamphetamine is asking for a public defender.
The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Missouri reports that 21-year-old James Belleville of Valles Mines was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of child abuse resulting in death. He is jailed on $1 million bond. His next court appearance is March 5.
Eight-month-old Caleb James Belleville died Oct. 16. Autopsy findings were presented to the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department earlier this month. Authorities say the child ingested methamphetamine and died of acute meth intoxication. Alcohol was also found in the child's blood.
