Court date set for Columbia man accused of assault with hammer
COLUMBIA - A Boone County judge has set a court date for a Columbia man arrested on charges of burglary, assault and possession of a controlled substance.
Columbia Police arrested 52-year-old Glen Cotton in June. Police said shortly after Cotton was released from the hospital, the suspect got into a fight with a man at a home on North William Street. Officers said Cotton forced his way in the home uninvited, shoved the male victim and pushed a woman out of the way. They said Cotton used a liquor bottle to try to hit the man victim during the alleged attack. Officers said Cotton then threw the bottle, punched the victim, started throwing cans of food at the victim and hit the victim with a hammer.
Cotton is scheduled to appear in Boone County Court Jan. 5 for arraignment. Judge Kevin Crane will hear the case.
