Court Dates Set for Two Accused Officers
DEXTER (AP) - New court dates have been set for two former southeast Missouri police officers accused of forgery and stealing thousands of dollars from an investigation fund.
The Dexter Daily Statesman (http://bit.ly/xGPFvA) reports that former Caruthersville chief Chris Riggs will appear in court on March 29. Meanwhile, former Bootheel Drug Task Force agent Marcus Hopkins will be in court March 14. Both cases were moved to Dunklin County on a change of venue.Riggs is charged with 24 counts of forgery and one count of stealing. Hopkins is charged with 11 counts of forgery.Authorities say Riggs wrote checks to Hopkins out of a criminal investigation fund, then forged Hopkins' signature to cash them. Both were arrested in October, and both are free on $200,000 bond.
