Curator's budget updates athletic and safety facilities
COLUMBIA - The UM System Board of Curators approved the State Capital Budget Request for the 2016 budget year Friday.
The request of about $250 million for the university included long range funding for installing and updating campus safety systems. These updates and installments consist of alarms, sprinkler systems and exit and corridor lighting. The plan would also upgrade security by installing automated and remote exterior locks on 76 buildings.
The approved plan includes the cost of two future athletic facility upgrades, even though the state would not provide funding for them. It is proposed that a new University Field softball complex, with an estimated cost of $16 million, would be built to the east of the Hearnes Center. A new indoor football training facility would be added onto the west of of the current athletic training complex and would cost $18.5 million.
