Custodian claims he received death threat with a noose
PHELPS COUNTY - The NAACP is calling for a federal investigation on behalf of a custodian who claims he received a death threat with a noose while at work.
According to KSDK, the St. James High School custodian was a victim of racist remarks for years. In mid-June, he saw a noose hanging from the ceiling in the break room while another custodian yelled a racial slur and said he would hang him.
The custodian claims a supervisor witnessed the death threat and racist language but did nothing.
KSDK reported that when the custodian complained about the break room incident he was transferred to the middle school and verbally reprimanded. The other custodian was given a written scolding.
The NAACP sent a report to the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Justice. They want the investigation to determine if the custodian's civil rights were violated by the school district.
The superintendent said the school district is investigating the claim.
