COLUMBIA - Customers packed local gift shops to buy chocolates, flowers, and candies Wednesday night, just in time for Valentine's Day.
Some local gift shops extended their operation hours in order to accommodate more customers.
The Candy Factory extended its closing time from 5:30pm to 7pm. Dozens of customers still waited in line within an hour before it closed.
One customer, Erin Rose, said she came to the shop to buy its special chocolate covered strawberries for her boyfriend and her family.
"I'm leaving town tomorrow, and I want to buy the freshest gifts for them," she said.
Amy Atkinson, the manager of The Candy Factory, said the weather may have brought in more customers than this day last year. The store expected to have more customers tomorrow and will also have extended operation hours.
