Cyclists compete in "The Hell of the Midwest"
ROCHEPORT - While some may think of a cold, winter day as a time to stay inside, some cylcists are choosing just the opposite.
Ultramax Sports held it's first Rocheport Roubaix on Sunday despite the elements. The Roubaix is a timed gravel cycling race that has 70,55,30 and 20 mile trails spreading across the Rocheport area.
The cycling race is also titled "The Hell of the Midwest." The name is fitting with Sunday's bitterly cold temperatures and the high chance of snow in the late afternoon.
Ultramax Sports owner Mark Livesay said today's weather won't stop cyclists.
"They almost wear it as a badge of honor, the colder it is the worst weather it is, the better they like it."
The race is timed as a whole but also has timed hills called the "King of the Mountain," which are individually timed as well.
The course is set to be completed around 5:30 Sunday evening.
