COLUMBIA - Darin Preis earns the open seat on the Columbia School Board after it met on Tuesday night and held interviews to fill a vacant seat.
Paul Cushing resigned from his position on the board after accepting a new job in Minneapolis, Minnesota that began October 1. His resignation left a seat open on the board, and eight individuals applied for the position.
Other applicants included Donna Burchert, Rex Cone, William Kinney, Brianna Lennon, Tim Parshall, Vickie Rorvig, and Bill Tackett.
At Tuesdays meeting, the board held ten minute interviews for each of the potential applicants followed by a vote.
After two rounds of votes, Preis won the seat with 4 votes from the board.
"I am so excited, I love this school district, we have amazing administration, the school board is all quality people, and it's such an honor to be among them and to have this opportunity." said Preis.
Pries also previously served on the Board as Vice President from 2005 to 2008, but lost the reelection.
"I considered running again in past cycles, but decided not to. When this opportunity came up with Paul leaving, I did not want to pass up the opportunity."
Preis will join the board at it's next meeting November 12.
