FULTON, Missouri - The William Woods University men's basketball team announced its fifth signing for the 2014-15 season. Head coach Nick Totta announced Wednesday that Iberia, Missouri native Darrien Dickey will join WWU this fall.
Dickey was a four-year letter winner at Iberia High School, where he helped lead the team to back-to-back Frisco League Conference and District Championships.
Dickey earned several awards during his four-year career with the Rangers, and was a three-time first-team Frisco League All-Conference honoree named Most Valuable Player his junior and senior seasons. Dickey also earned Class 2 Player of the Year honors his senior year.
Some of Dickey's other achievements include being named to the first-team All-State MOBCA, second-team Sports Writers All-State, and a KJEL All-Star during his junior year. During his senior year, Dickey was named to the Sports Writers All-State team, named KJEL Co-Player of the Year, MFA Oil Shootout MVP, Missouri State Grizzlies Classic MVP, and also named to the MOBCA Challenge All-Tournament team. The Rangers went 29-2 Dickey's senior year.
After four seasons on the court with the Rangers, Dickey totaled 1,684 points, 503 assists, 271 steals, 633 rebounds, 69 blocks and shot 55 percent from the field.
"Darrien has an outstanding opportunity to be a tremendous player for us here at William Woods," said Totta. "He does a fantastic job of getting to the basket, absorbing contact, finishing and getting to the line. He can also shoot from the perimeter and even when he becomes a better shooter, Darrien will be even more difficult to defend," Totta added. "He is a tremendous athlete and we are excited to have him here at WWU."
