TRACY, Mo. (AP) - Two drivers are dead following a police chase and crash that began with a carjacking in northwestern Missouri.

The collision happened about 3:30 p.m. Monday on rural Missouri 92, near the Platte County town of Tracy. Names have not been released, but authorities said the driver of an SUV died at the scene and the suspected carjacker died later at a hospital.

Missouri Highway Patrol officers believe the suspect stole a car in Iowa and drove to Missouri, stole three more cars in the St. Joseph area and stole a fourth at gunpoint in Platte City.

Troopers pursuing the suspect say he lost control when another car was trying to pass on Missouri 92. Officers say that's when he collided with an SUV headed in the opposite direction.
