COLUMBIA -- As of right now,  the Big 12 Conference still has 10 teams. But it seems like it's only a matter of time before it's nine, with Texas A&M heading to the SEC.

The New York Times reported on Monday Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin sent a letter to the Big 12 board chairman indicating the Aggies withdrawl from the league.

The Big 12 chair is Missouri chancellor Brady Deaton, who talked on Columbia radio station KFRU Tuesday morning. Deaton disputed receiving a letter from Texas A&M.

"When I saw the New York Times story I said, my goodness, I opened my mail, it isn't here, so I immediately called as I was walking into the studio and I called Bowen Loftin, I said Bowen have you sent me a letter? I see in the New York Times you have. Bowen said no, I just issued a news release clarifying I have not sent such a letter." Deaton said.
