Deaton-Led Global Hunger Panel Meets at MU
COLUMBIA - A global hunger panel led by University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton will hold a public meeting Friday on the Columbia campus.
President Barack Obama appointed Deaton chairman of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development two years ago. The scientific advisory board draws experts from U.S. higher education and works with the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Friday's meeting begins at 8 a.m. at the Reynolds Journalism Institute. The session can also be viewed in a live online stream.
Board members are expected to report on recent outreach visits to Africa and Asia members and discuss topics such as pest management.
Deaton grew up on a Kentucky farm and has taught agricultural economics. He was also a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand.
