DENVER (AP) - Denver police say a police officer has died after being shot in the head while trying to break up a confrontation at a city park, where hundreds of families had gathered for a free weekly jazz concert.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says officers were trying to break up a confrontation at City Park on Sunday night, around the time the band was wrapping up, when shots were fired. The shots sent scores of park goers running.
The officer was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
