COLUMBIA - The landlords of Columbia Home Rental hosted their annual cleanup the neighborhood event on Saturday.
Rick and Shawna Neuner, the landlords of Columbia Home Rental, teamed up with the 4-H Club to perform a variety of a tasks to help make their local neighborhood around Derby Ridge Road look better.
The Neuners said some of the properties needed some repair and this event was a way to take care of that and raise money for the 4-H Club at the same time.
Shawna Neuner said it's good to see kids and adults come out to help their community.
"It's really nice to see the kids running around and some of the residents come out and join in to help with stuff," Neuner said. "They're all working together trying to get it done and help make it a better place for everybody."
Neuner said the event has grown beyond just being a cleanup.
"The whole thing has started to take off and become a bigger event," Neuner said. "It's turned into a neighborhood event instead of just cleaning up our properties and being a fundraiser for 4-H, it's now also a community-building, big barbecue for the neighborhood."
Neuner said some local businesses sponsored the event and donated money to the 4-H Club.
Neuner said she has spoken with the city of Columbia about the event as well.
"I spoke with the city about what we were doing and they were really excited about it," Neuner said.
This is the second year the Neuners have hosted the event. They said they got the idea for it after winning a bid last year when the 4-H Club was auctioning their time and labor to do some landscaping projects.
