Disability Advocates Gather at Capitol
JEFFERSON CITY - Members of the Arc of Missouri are gathering at 11 this morning in the rotunda of the state capitol to raise awareness about the waiting list for developmental disability services.
The Arc is a grassroots organization for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Last January, the group displayed 5,000 shoes in the rotunda to represent the 5,000 people waiting for disability services.
Over the past year, though, the Arc reports an unprecedented number of people have received services through an initiative called the "Partnership for Hope" which pools county, state and federal funds.
The group's focus this year is thanking lawmakers for their efforts to address these unmet needs in Missouri, while continuing to raise awareness.
The Arc will present a new display in the rotunda this morning and members will be on hand to answer questions.
