Douglass High School Accepting Bike Donations
COLUMBIA - Columbia's PedNet Coalition and a Douglass High School environmental science class will collect bike donations Friday afternoon. James Reid, a science teacher at Douglass and PedNet Progect Manager Gina Overshiner need the bikes to help teach students about bicycle safety. Reid said the two began working together when he started having trouble getting transportation for the class field trips to do service around the community.
The environmental science course teaches the high schoolers how to take care of the environment and now, with PedNet's help teaches them about the bike safety laws. Reid said at the end of the course, the students will receive a bicycle that they can "fix up" themselves.
If you would like to donate an old bike to the class, you can drop it off in front of Douglass High School between 10 and 2 pm on Friday afternoon.
