COLUMBIA - Police arrested Maurice Penny and Deundrea Woods on Sunday night after witnesses say the two men exchanged gunshots in Douglass Park.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday and come a little more than a week after the shooting at the Boone County Fair.

Police will not say if the incidents are related, but will say it's a possibility.

"It's still under investigation, but we are definitely looking at the possibility that it is related to the earlier shots fired incidents or that one or both of the individuals who were arrested might have some connection to those incidents," said Officer Jessie Haden.

The shooting didn't stop parkgoers from playing Monday. Clarence Young often brings his three daughters to the park and he lives nearby.

"From my living room, I heard five or six shots coming from over in this area," said Young.

He said he still feels safe to bring his kids to the park during the day.

"I still brought them here today. I didn't really feel like it was a problem you know, that was yesterday, a different day and I don't really be out here at night," said Young.

Penny and Deundrea were arrested for Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Armed Criminal Action.

Columbia Police encourage residents to send in any information they have about recent shootings to CRIME STOPPERS at 875-TIPS.
