Drive to New Orleans
FULTON (AP) - After Penny Phillips injured her hands while remodeling her home, doctors ordered that she no longer use her power tools. Determined to make the most of the bad news, Phillips began thinking of what she could do with her abundance of tools that were too expensive to just lie around and collect dust. Then she saw New Orleans' churches were in dire need of help - and the number one thing they needed was tools for recovery after Hurricane Katrina. So she with help from her local church in Fulton, she gathered $5,000 worth of tools. And then Phillips decided to drive the 1,600-mile round trip and deliver them herself. But she had a flat tire, lost her air conditioning and then she busted the oil pan in her car forcing her to be stranded. A church member from New Orleans eventually met her to pick up the tools.
