Driver in hospital after car speeds into ditch off Highway 63
COLUMBIA - A driver is recovering Wednesday after crossing two lanes of Highway 63 and landing in a ditch.
It happened a quarter mile south of Oakland Grove Road. The highway patrol said 29-year old Dakotah McQuay was going south on Highway 63 when he swerved to avoid a deer. McQuay crossed the median and both northbound lanes and drove down the embankment.
No other cars were hit. McQuay was the only person in the car. Highway Patrol Trooper Nick March says McQuay was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.
Two state troopers and fire and ambulance personnel responded to the call around 1:15 p.m. Two towing company employees had to cut down trees and brush to get the car back up the embankment. It took about two hours to clear the scene.
The right lane of northbound Highway 63 was closed for about 40 minutes Wednesday afternoon. It caused minor traffic delays.
