Drivers can expect game day traffic changes in Columbia
COLUMBIA - The University of Missouri utilized its new plan to help alleviate game day traffic Saturday.
MU has partnered with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, MUPD, MoDot and the Columbia Police Department to devise a new plan that will reduce traffic after football games in downtown Columbia. The goal of the plan is to reduce outbound traffic on the major roadways that surround the sports park.
Vehicles traveling north-bound on Providence Road will be required to turn west on Stadium Boulevard. Fans returning home to Kansas City or St. Louis are encouraged to use the I-70 express which is located west-bound on Stadium Blvd.
"This is post-game to alleviate traffic downtown due to all the spotlights it gets congested very quickly and backs up all the way to stadium and providence," said State Trooper, Adam Kinney.
The various agencies have all launched social media campaigns to spread awareness of the new regulations by tweeting or posting on Facebook. You can find travel times, preferred routes and other traffic information on @MizzouGameday on Twitter.
