Duffy, four solo home runs boost Royals over Tigers
DETROIT - The Kansas City Royals hit four solo home runs in a 6-1 win over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night.
Raul Mondesi provided the first blast of the game for the Royals in the third inning, his first career major league home run.
Alex Gordon knocked the second Royals' home run of the night to right field in the fifth inning to make it 2-0 Kansas City.
Eric Hosmer hit the third solo home run for the Royals with a deep shot to center field in the seventh inning to extend the Royals' advantage to 3-0.
Kendrys Morales rounded out the power display for Kansas City with a solo shot in the ninth inning that padded the Royals' lead to 6-1.
Royals' starting pitcher Danny Duffy (10-1) spun a gem to win his 10th game of the season. Duffy lasted seven innings and allowed only three hits while collecting four strikeouts.
The rubber game of the Royals' three-game set with the Tigers is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:10 p.m.
