Duplex Fire in Columbia Forces Evacuation
COLUMBIA- A structure fire in the duplex of 2904 Bluesgrass Ct. in Columbia forces neighbors to evacuate. A neighbor called 911 at 12:33 and the first unit arrived at 12:36 on Saturday.
A fire investigator is on the scene conducting a scene investigation to determine the start of the fire. The heaviest damage is in the rear of the structure, kitchen, and living area. They do not have the cost of the damage, but Steven Sapp, Public Information Officer with the Columbia Fire Department, said he speculates the damage will be significant.
Fire crews are checking its hot spots to make sure the fire is completely out. The fire department is salvaging and recovering valuables as they apply water.
The structure, 2904 is a rental property that connects with 2906. The occupants in 2906 were home and evacuated immediately. Sapp said they are working on finding them temporary lodging because can't stay in their unit.
