COLUMBIA - A residential fire resulted in two families losing their home early Wednesday morning.
According to the Columbia Fire Department, crews arrived at 2:27 a.m. at 2214 Chapel Hill Road, a multi-family dwelling with members living on the first floor and basement. Residents on the first floor woke up residents in the basement, and all evacuated the building and left the scene before the fire department arrived. No residents suffered injuries. Crews "knocked down" the fire 20 minutes after arriving on the scene.
According to Assistant Fire Marshal Tim Bach, damage caused by the fire is estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
