TALLADEGA, AL -- Carl Edwards lead the Roush Fenway effort in Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway with a third-place finish at NASCAR largest racetrack. Edwards led the field to the white flag and led the race with a half of a lap remaining, before getting shuffled back to third.
It looked as if Edwards would get the win and lead a one-two Roush Fenway finish, earlier in the day after he passed RFR teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for the lead on lap 124. Seconds later the caution flew and eventually NASCAR waved the red flag for a rain delay. Despite persistent rainfall and looming nightfall, NASCAR was able to get the race restarted over three and a half hours later.
Stenhouse went on to finish 13th after running as high as fifth late in the race. Greg Biffle finished 36th after getting caught up in a multi-car accident early in the race.
With the finish, Edwards moved to within 41 points of the Sprint Cup point lead; sitting in second place. Greg Biffle is 10th in the points and Stenhouse advanced two positions to 16th in the points.
The teams return to action next weekend at Darlington Raceway where Roush Fenway has posted five wins in Sprint Cup action.
