Elementary School Participates in "Everyone Eats" Program
COLUMBIA - Volunteers gathered Friday to pack canned goods in preparation for this year's "Everyone Eats" Thanksgiving food program. The program's goal is to provide families in Columbia with food during Thanksgiving.
This year, West Boulevard Elementary School students and staff collected more than 1500 cans and other non-perishable goods. Teachers made it a competition to see who could donate the most cans within a two-week period. The winning classroom collected 300 canned goods.
The founder, Almeta Crayton, said she is extremely honored by the amount students donated this year.
Crayton will personally create and deliver baskets of goods before Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Day, she provides a meal to those in need. Crayton started the "Everyone Eats" program 14 years ago.
