Emissions Tests In STL Area
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Starting today, St. Louis-area drivers face a new emissions testing program. But the state agency that administers the program says it's not fully functional for day one. 200 service stations in the St. Louis area are licensed by the Gateway Vehicle Inspection program. That means they can conduct both safety and emissions tests on site. Meanwhile, more than 500 other service stations are still waiting for a license or equipment. The program was initially scheduled to start last month but was delayed because more time was needed to equip shops and train technicians. Because of the slow transition period, the agency is giving drivers whose tags expire in October until January to get their cars tested.
