COLUMBIA - School officials said Wednesday they have officially begun enrollment for Fr. Tolton Catholic High School. The school will open its doors in Fall 2011. School officials said this is the first Catholic high school in Columbia.

Principal Kristie Wolfe told KOMU the school will serve grades nine and 10 the first year. The school plans to hold 400 students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 by the end of three years.

Wolfe believes the time is right for a Catholic high school in Columbia. She said that students of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome, and the location off Route 63 opens the school to students all over Mid-Missouri.

Ray Schachtner is a local parent who plans to send his kids to Fr. Tolton starting next year. Schachtner's children currently attend Columbia Catholic School, which ends at eighth grade. Schachtner played a crucial role in fund raising for the new school, and is excited to see those efforts pay off this fall.

According to the school's website, $10.6 million dollars have been raised at this point. Once the school hits the $12 million dollar mark, an anonymous donor pledged to give $1 million of his own money to hit the $13 million goal.

Tuition for Catholic students is $5,900 per year, while tuition for non-Catholic students is $7,900 per year.

Wolfe said the easiest way to enroll your child is by filling out the appropriate forms on the school's website, www.frtoltonhs.org.
